Highest IQ in the World: Famous Scores Explained
IQ rankings are popular online, but exceptionally high IQ figures need more context than a simple numbered list.
Marilyn vos Savant is historically famous for a reported IQ of 228 and her inclusion in Guinness World Records' “Highest IQ” category during the 1980s. Guinness retired that category in 1990, citing problems with comparing IQ scores from different tests.
Terence Tao is another frequently mentioned name, with popular sources often giving an estimated IQ around 225–230. YoungHoon Kim has reported a score of 276, but this figure comes from a different high-range testing context and should not automatically be treated as equivalent to a conventional clinical IQ score.
The topic therefore raises an important question: is intelligence really something that can be reduced to one number?
