How to Optimize Your Resume for ATS in 2026

 An ATS-friendly resume isn't a special type of resume. It is simply a resume structured so an Applicant Tracking System can accurately parse and identify your qualifications. Start with formatting. Use a single-column layout, conventional headings and readable text. Avoid putting important information inside graphics, tables, text boxes, headers or footers. Next, optimize your keywords. Read the job description and identify: Job title Required skills Software and tools Certifications Qualifications Industry terminology Include relevant terms naturally in your summary, skills and experience sections. Finally, demonstrate those skills through achievements. For example: Weak: "Experience with Google Analytics." Better: "Used Google Analytics 4 to analyze acquisition channels and identify opportunities that increased organic conversions."
