 Mount Everest is famous around the world, but it is only one of several extraordinary peaks found in the Himalayas and Karakoram.

At 8,848.86 meters, Everest has the highest elevation above sea level. K2, Kangchenjunga, Lhotse and Makalu follow it in the global ranking.



The 14 mountains that rise above 8,000 meters are called the eight-thousanders. All of them are located in either the Himalaya or Karakoram mountain ranges.
